6 SIMPLE TIPS TO GET YOUR HOUSE READY FOR FALL

Our favorite tips to help you prep your house for Fall, and Fall decor.

5 SIMPLE TIPS TO GET YOUR HOUSE READY FOR FALL

Changing your home's theme isn't an easy task. It's practically like packing up a quarter of your house (the everyday stuff), unpacking it (the Fall stuff), packing it back up (the Fall stuff), and then unpacking it again (the everyday stuff)!

....is that right!? Yikes. Don't worry. We're here to help! Follow these 6 simple tips to get your house ready for Fall.

(It's best to do this all in a weekend. It's a little too much to do in one day. Take your time, and do it up nice and right so you don't have to do it often.)

Before throwing your hands in the air and saying "It's too much!" "I'm tired!" "It's not gonna happen this year", follow these simple steps to help get your house ready for Fall.

6 SIMPLE TIPS TO GET YOUR HOUSE READY FOR FALL

#1 - CLEAN THE EXTERIOR

Clean off your outdoor furniture, wash the cushions, sweep out the cobwebs (we'll use fake ones next month that are far less icky), wash your windows and sills, clean out/up planters, clean the gutters, drain your outdoor faucets, and sweep the driveway. Having a nice clean exterior will give you a better canvas to add decorations to. And it's another check mark on your To-Do list of home maintenance tasks!

PRO TIP: DO A LITTLE EXTRA...

- Pressure wash the driveway, and the house if you can. Some hardware stores let you rent one if needed.

- Install clips/hooks for decor and lights if you don't already have them.

- Set up extension cords and hide them as best as you can. (Don't forget about what you'll need for Christmas setups too so you don't have to make adjustments later on.)

#2 - PACK UP A BIT OF YOUR EVERYDAY DECOR

Pack up some of your everyday decor items you have on bookshelves, mantels, side tables, etc. Keep things out that are neutral and can blend in with your Fall additions. The goal is reduce your knick-knacks and textiles a bit so when you add the Fall decor it won't be so cumbersome and miss-matched.

ITEMS WE SUGGEST PACKING UP: Fake flowers, vases, baskets, throw blankets, pillow cases, duvet covers, rugs, kitchen towels, mugs, coasters, etc.

PRO TIP: DON'T PACK UP EVERYTHING, AND MAKE SURE YOU LABEL YOUR BOXES!

Only pack up items that you have a Fall themed replacement for, and maybe a little bit more.

You can add fillers around the house after you replenish it with the essentials, if needed.

*(Pictures/art can all be kept behind one another within the frame for easy switching.)*

#3 - CLEAN THE INTERIOR

Now that you are down to your "minimalist house" or "blank canvas", it's time to clean up!

Wash your blinds, wipe the fan blades and reverse the spin (should be clockwise for winter), check for drafts and fill any cracks, change your air filters, change all batteries even the smoke detectors, wipe down all doors, dust everything!

PRO TIP: Take this time to test your winter equipment to ensure you're ready for Winter too. Create or maintain your "Go Bags". Check all appliances and utilities.

#4 - GET OUT YOUR FALL DECORATIONS

This isn't the most fun step, we know (not that the others were a blast). But it's obviously a very important one. So go ahead and crawl up in that attic, dig through that storage unit, or venture into the darkness of your basement for anything Fall. Once you have all of your boxes sitting in the light of day, start unpacking!

PRO TIP: Unpack everything in one central location. A spare bedroom, or sunroom usually work best. As you are unpacking each item, make sure you place it into categorized piles. You'll have a pile of pumpkins, a pile of leaves, a pile of pillow case covers, signs, candles, etc. Keep it organized!

(Take note of items that can also be used for Halloween. I call these....FALLoween items. Don't un-follow me please.)

Hold off on getting out the Halloween stuff for a little longer. If you see Halloween boxes wile searching for Fall, make sure you put them closer to the door/entrance of your storage location for easy access next month.

#5 - TAKE INVENTORY/CREATE A FALL PIN BOARD

Take a picture of the room/piles with your smartphone to easily reference your inventory as you walk through the house getting ideas. I prefer to pack my things back up in categories to make it that much easier on myself year after year. (Refer back to those QR labels we love from #3 above.)

SEARCH PINTEREST! Pinterest is a great resource for providing decor ideas. Pick ONE theme and stick to it. Create a Halloween board to ensure your decor ideas will stay cohesive in theme, color and style.

#6 - GET IN THE MOOD, AND GET AT IT!

Ask Alexa to crank up a Halloween Party radio station, pour yourself a glass of apple cider (spiked or not, your choice) or PSL, light a fall candle (or five), throw some pumpkin spiced cookies in the oven, and put football on in the background. Have fun!

Don’t stress it.

Don’t overthink it.

Don’t over-decorate it. (Yes. that's a thing.)

HAVE FUN WITH IT!

HAPPY FALL YA'LL!
